“Hot” and “cold” are backward-looking labels
A hot number is simply a number with a high count in a stated sample. A cold number has a lower count or a long observed absence. Change the time window or matrix era and the ranking can change.
Examples of completed historical absences
| White ball | Longest completed absence |
|---|---|
| 1 | 139 drawings |
| 35 | 111 drawings |
| 34 | 111 drawings |
| 45 | 108 drawings |
| 14 | 96 drawings |
| 16 | 92 drawings |
Why “overdue” is not a forecast
A long drought can be a striking historical record, but independent drawings do not accumulate a debt. The next drawing does not compensate for what happened before it.
Method and responsible interpretation
The figures on this page are drawn from the verified historical dataset used to produce The Powerball Encyclopedia. Historical frequency, droughts, pairs, streaks and records describe past drawings. They do not predict future random drawings or provide a guaranteed winning method.
