Why raw counts can mislead
Mega Millions has used seven different matrix eras. White ball 17 was eligible throughout the full archive, while later high-numbered balls had fewer opportunities. Mega Ball field sizes have ranged widely as well. The encyclopedia therefore uses raw appearances, matrix-weighted expected appearances and within-era rankings.
Frequency describes history
An exposure index near 1.00 means an observed count is close to the matrix-weighted expectation. It is not an odds forecast, and a lifetime leader does not receive extra probability in the next independent drawing.
Method and responsible interpretation
The figures on this page are drawn from the verified historical dataset used to produce The Mega Millions Encyclopedia. Historical frequency, droughts, pairs, streaks and records describe past drawings. They do not predict future random drawings or provide a guaranteed winning method.
